last chance

So this is suppose to be my final entry about the upcoming audio project. However I am still undecided. What do I choose? Calm peaceful, enchanting night or fun, happiness and sadness of a child's life? Once I start collecting the sounds I will decide. I won't know exactly what I want to do until I start it. So this up coming week I am going to start gathering together exactly what I need and want and try to come up with it.

This is very hard to figure out. Comparing this with last semester's project, I find that this is more difficult. I find that I can express myself with visual aspects better than I can with audio. Hopefully my ideas will come out the way I want them to.

Still thinking of more ideas.

So after watching Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium I was starting to realize that I really want to bring back the sounds of childhood. Toys, noises, laughter and everything else that comes along with it. The ups and downs of a child's life. The good the bad and the fun.

Here are some pictures of the kind of ups and downs of children that I want to capture:

There was another idea of slowing things down, making something that was calm and cool and soft. Something in the night, the sounds of a walk in the forest, the crunch of the branches, the hoot of an owl, the rustle of leaves in the wind and being moved by animals. I am going to try and develop this idea.

What to do

For the past week I have been having the hardest time figuring out just what this loud-speaker assignment is just about. I was thinking of doing something about what I love, like sounds from the sports i play and from the instruments I enjoy as well as any sounds that surprise me through out my days. I was also thinking of something along the lines of what an average day is like for me. Perhaps an average weekday. the drones of a lecture, the crisp sound of the wind while walking, the cling of the cash register at my work.
I am very confused by what I want to do. I have had no solid concepts. I am not sure what the limits are at this point, maybe I should experiment with different sounds out of different speakers in different areas of the room. Or maybe something more of a message, like an old radio broadcast.
Still more ideas to come.

1st Soundwalk

I was walking through the halls of my Residence this morning on the way to breakfast, and I stopped to just listen to the sounds. My hallways basically captures any escaping noises from everyone's rooms and funnels it along hte hallway so that you can hear music someone is play from the farthest room away. While continuing slowly along the hallway, I was able to hear my fellow floormates' morning routines. Blow dryers were going off in the room to my left and it reminded me of the wind blowing hard against my window during the winter.(I tried to attach a sound clip of how the blow dryers sounded like the wind against my window, but I do not know how to attach a sound clip instead I attached a Video clip, however it is not exactly the same sound I heard.)

Further along I could hear hte phone ringing, it's sound was echoing from many doors away and by the time I heard it, It was slightly distorted. Showers turned on halfway down the hall on the left and hte right, and the dropping of the water had the effect of a rainy day. The ones where you just want to curl up inside with a thrilling book and a blanket. The bang bang bang above could only be that of foot steps on their way to class or the cafeteria. The walls are so thin in my residence that almost anything can be heard. Could I possibly relate these to my loudspeaker project? Is there a way? These noises make up my everyday life, and many others experience the same. But listening closely to each one or clearly hearing only certain parts, creates a whole new experience.
